Every student at Big Walnut is given an individual ID number that allows them to purchase lunch as well as access many of the technology programs we will use in class. Please help your child learn their ID number so they are able to log on without teacher help.

A LOOK INTO THIS WEEK'S TECH CLASS: *At the end of each week, I will be posting a short summary of what we learned in Tech class. I will also post pictures of the students doing activities or projects during class time. |
|
*Welcome (: We will begin the year getting to know each other and discussing rules of the tech lab so students know what is expected during class.
*This week, second grade practiced typing skills with a new program called Dance Mat Typing and explored the ABC Ya website for educational games.
*Second graders will be making all about me word clouds using a program on the ABC Ya website, which will help enforce typing skills.
*Second grade will finish their word clouds and begin to learn to use the camera to take pictures to attach to our word clouds!
*Second grade will be working on the Sum Dog pre-assessment for the next few weeks. Sum Dog is a game based program that will assess children's math and reading skills.
*Second grade had fun taking a "brain break" during class with the Go Noodle website where we learned some secret handshakes and did a few dances!
*Second grade practiced more typing skills on Dance Mat Typing and started to chart their progress!
*Happy October! This week second grade will be using the Tux Paint program to create pictures about the fall!
*Second grade will complete a Halloween Activity and practice accessing their Google Drives! We also explored some fun Halloween websites!
*Second graders have made real progress on our star chart for Dance Mat Typing. They are becoming familiar with the keys and working to use proper form and posture while learning to type.
*Second grade will be learning about email and getting to compose their own to send back to me!
*During our last week of school before break, second grade will work on a magnet poem project that we will print out for them to bring home! We will also explore some fun new winter games as well! Happy Holidays (:
*Welcome back!! We will go over some new rules and see who has been practicing their typing over break!
*This week we will start to learn about code and what computer programmers do every day. Students will work through code puzzles themselves and create their own game at the end of the program!
*Second graders will participate in a virtual valentines day project, where we are paired with a partner school to connect with and make virtual valentines for! I will be posting our projects on the website after we are finished (:
*We took a break from typing, so we will pick back up to see how much we remember! Some students are already through the Dance Mat Typing program and onto a more advanced website called typing.com.
*This week we will start practicing with Google Drive and Google Classroom. Students use their Google accounts throughout their careers at Big Walnut, so it's very important to know how to log on and use all the features.
*Second graders will begin to use Build with Chrome, a website using Legos to build challenges! It's a very fun site with a lot to do! We will work towards using the Build Academy which has students solving challenges!
*Second grade will be starting research projects this week! We will creating our own online virtual zoo. Students will choose an animal, conduct research, search for images and put together a presentation as a final project!
*Deputy Snyder will be in this week to show a video and talk to the students about Internet Safety!
*For the final week of school, students will get to use the Makey-Makey kits, which are 21st century inventions allowing students to be creative and explore using materials such as fruit, veggies, tin foil, play dough and more!

Don't forget about class dojo! Class dojo is a behavior system where students are awarded points for good behavior, but they may also loose points for not so good behavior! Your child should have brought a letter home with information allowing you to access our class to keep track of your student. I also ask that you send your email back with students, which allows them to log on to class dojo as students! Thanks!
Don't forget about the winter break challenge! Return your calendars with a parents signature by Friday, January 8th to be entered in a raffle for a prize! |
