TECHNOLOGY ACCESS
Every student at Big Walnut is given an individual ID number that allows them to purchase lunch as well as access many of the technology programs we will use in class. Please help your child learn their ID number so they are able to log on without teacher help.

A LOOK INTO THIS WEEK'S TECH CLASS: *At the end of each week, I will be posting a short summary of what we learned in Tech class. I will also post pictures of the students doing activities or projects. |

*Welcome (: We will begin the school year getting to know one another and discussing rules of the computer lab!
*This week, first grade did some typing practicing using Keyboarding Zoo and also got to explore different educational games on the ABC Ya website!
*Over the next few weeks, first grade will start the pre-assessment on the SumDog program. This is a game based program that will assess their knowledge regarding math and reading skills.
*Knowing the different parts of the computer and how to use them is important in tech class. We will work more on our mouse control and keyboarding skills this week!
*First grade will get to explore various typing games/websites to familiarize themselves with the keyboard.
*This week first grade will work to create Halloween pictures for the holiday! We will also explore some fun Halloween websites as well!
*First graders will be starting centers this week where we will use the lab computers, chromebooks, and ipads to familiarize students with all of the technology offered at school!
*In our centers, first grade will practice typing and mouse skills, play on the Lexia and SumDog programs, and work on computer vocabulary with a flashcard memory game!
*First graders are becoming independent learners on the computers! They are able to log on and work without any trouble. They are also great with helping out other classmates as well!
*We will be doing some fun Winter activities for these last two weeks of school. First graders will get to build their own snowman or snowflake and print their pictures to take home! We will also explore some fun new winter games! Happy Holidays! (:
*Welcome back!! We will start to practice some typing skills and get new seats for the second half of the year!
*First grade will start to learn about code this week, which is what computer programmers use. We will use the kodable website to practice code ourselves!
*We will begin to use Dance Mat Typing, which is a website to help beginners learn proper keyboarding techniques.
*First grade will play some fun valentines day games online and create their own valentines!
*First graders have been learning keyboarding techniques and special keys on the keyboard. We are moving through the Dance Mat Typing program quickly!
*We will start to use Build with Chrome, which is a website using Legos that lets students build! We will think about a city and what types of structures a city has and begin to build!
*First graders will practice logging in to their Google Drive accounts, which they will use through the course of their schooling at Big Walnut.
*First grade will start using the hour of code website to learn more about coding and what it takes to be a computer programmer!
*First grade will use the iPads to work on adding and subtracting by competing in groups using the Kahoot! website.
*Deputy Snyder will be in this week to show a video and talk to the students about Internet Safety!
*For the final week of school, students will get to use the Makey-Makey kits, which are 21st century inventions allowing students to be creative and explore using materials such as fruit, veggies, tin foil, play dough and more!

REMINDERS: |
*Don't forget about class dojo! Class dojo is a behavior system where students are awarded points for good behavior, but they may also loose points for not so good behavior! Your child should have brought a letter home with information allowing you to access our class to keep track of your student. I also ask that you send your email back with students, which allows them to log on to class dojo as students! Thanks!
*Lunch numbers are very important for students to know. Student's lunch ID numbers are used at lunch time, in tech class and other classes as well. Please keep working with your child to help them remember their lunch number! (: Don't forget about the winter break challenge! Return your calendars with a parents signature by Friday, January 8th to be entered in a raffle for a prize! |
